Kristohanong Katilingban sa Pagpakabana – Social Involvement Office (KKP-SIO), the social formation arm of Xavier University, is the second to conduct a mock poll, last February 22, 2016 inside the XU campus. Out of roughly 1,200 students and faculty members who participated, Cong. Rufus garnered 36.41% of the total votes, ranking second.

But it was a landslide win when the Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST) followed suit and organized their Manual and online mock polls last February 26, 2016. He toppled other Mayoral bets via a 94.4% and 50.63% win in Online and Manual polls respectively.

It was again another victory for Cong.Rufus as he again emerged victorious in the mock election polls conducted for the students of the Southern Philippines College (the most recent one to hold their own mock poll dating March 11, 2016) - a convincing 40% win.

The overwhelming support of Cagayan de Oro's students for Mayoral candidate Rufus Rodriguez is a reflection of his significant contribution in education. Throughout his nine year term as Cagayan de Oro's District 2 Congressman, he had given more than 11,000 scholarships and financial assistance, built and renovated more than 900 classrooms and authored House Bill 00242 which became Republic Act 09519 converting the former Mindanao Polytechnic State College into Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST).

Presently, he is again putting education in the forefront in his Team Rufus Harus! 10 Point Agenda. Mayoral candidate Rufus Rodriguez plans to establish a City Public College, increase the funds of the City Scholarship Program, add more classrooms for public elementary and high school, provide equipment and facilities for vocational schools and push for more socio-cultural projects.

Himself a scholar and an academic achiever, Cagayan de Oro Mayoral candidate Rufus Rodriguez firmly believes that education is key in helping eradicate poverty in our city and in improving the lives of Kagay-anons.
